There is one night in the year when the wind smells of damp earth and ancient smoke. It is the eve of Samhain and the Day of the Dead: the exact moment when the Wheel turns toward the shadows and the veil between worlds becomes as thin as a dry leaf.

Tonight I do not seek the vertical strength of trees or the expansion of spring. Today my journal opens to record the art of remembering and releasing.

The Golden Guardian and the Herbs of Transition

For this evening, the altar is not dressed in vivid green, but in the tones of twilight and memory:

Marigold (Cempasúchil) and Calendula (Flowers of the Path): Their golden petals hold the last heat of the summer sun. Placed at the entrance of the home or on the altar, their deep aroma not only guides the spirits of our ancestors back to the table, but also reminds us that beauty flourishes even on the threshold of winter.

White Copal and Mugwort (Clearers of the Veil): Burning over charcoal, copal resin lifts prayers and cleanses the grief remaining from the dying agricultural year. Mugwort, burned in small amounts, brings stillness to the atmosphere and sharpens intuition to hear the messages of our lineage.

Valerian Root or Cypress (Pacifiers of Grief): They help us soothe the pain of physical absence, reminding us that in nature nothing is lost—everything is merely transformed.

Closing the Harvest

Instead of a lengthy exercise, tonight I sit by the light of a single yellow or orange candle with three simple questions written in my notebook:

  1. Which ancestor or loved one have I dedicated my gratitude to today for who I am?
  2. Which fruit of this year has ripened, and should I store in the granary of my soul?
  3. Which dead leaf of my life must I let fall to the earth tonight to become compost?

The Silent Midnight Offering

Before going to sleep, I leave a glass of clean water, a piece of bread or seasonal fruit, and a pinch of burning copal on the window sill. I turn off the lights in the house and allow the night to do its work: embracing the darkness with respect, knowing that beneath the cold earth, the seeds are already dreaming of the coming spring.

Welcome to Palabras Prohibidas!

This is my little corner in the vastness of the internet—a space where words come alive and turn into windows to the soul. Here, through lines and photographs, I share everything that moves me, inspires me, and makes me feel alive: the poetry hidden in the details, the music that resonates in silence, the stories that haunt us from the darkness of cinema, and the books that whisper in our ears during sleepless nights.

I hope you enjoy this journey filled with love, questions, and discovery.

Welcome aboard!
